DAVE THOMPSON

Guitar etc.

I didn’t like piano lessons and preferred hockey. So my mom eventually got me guitar lessons at a local music store that shuttered a few months later. But I’d practiced hard all summer so Mark and Jeff and I started our band “Onyx,” we took over the world, and the rest is history. Also, I took lessons with Bob McFee and Tibor Puskas, played in various freelance situations, studied harmony and arranging with Jim Howard, and went to Berklee in Boston where I got a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Composition under Herb Pomeroy, Ken Pullig, Hal Crook etc.

Over the years I’ve played many gigs, on records, in theatre shows, TV, radio... Lately I’ve been with the Stratford Festival and Drayton Theatre, and played a lot in the past with Juno-winners Kellylee Evans (we opened for George Benson, Richard Bona, and Chris Botti) and Susan Aglukark.

I’m also an adjunct professor at Heritage College, music director at Nexus, and in 2007 released the recording “found. Wanting.”
